I haven't written on my blog in such a long time. It's summer, you know...lots going on. The boys finished up the City of Gilbert swim team. Austin twisted his ankle fooling around with Jeremy the morning of the preliminary meet so he couldn't swim. That knocked him out of the finals for sure. Adam and Jeremy each swam in preliminary events and made the top 16 so they went to finals. Adam won his heat for the 50 m freestyle but there was another heat of 6 swimmers. Timewise, they beat him, but I'm so proud of him for the improvements he's made in his swimming in a short time. He's very strong and when that gets combined with better and better technique, he'll be a swimmer to be reckoned with! Jeremy swam in 3 races; 100 m freestyle, 50 m freestyle, and 50 m butterfly. He won all 3 events and got medals for being all-city champion in those 3 races. Way to go, all three of you for the 5:30 am practices and improving your times!! Both Jeremy and Adam have started pre-season practices for the Williams Field High School swim team. Adam will be starting high school so he's excited about that...Jeremy will be starting his junior year. Austin is starting Jr. High by going to 7th grade. Although he's attending a K-8 school, the 7th and 8th grades are separate from the other grades and their curriculum is run like a jr. high, they change classrooms, etc. They also have more sports team opportunities than the earlier grades. Have fun, boys!
Ken's mom has moved in with us while her home is being built in the neighborhood right next to ours. She bought her home sight-unseen simply on our recommendations based on what she told us she was looking for. She has now come out here and has seen the model home and is happily watching her cute house be built and couldn't be more excited. The boys are happy to have a Grandma around and Ken and I enjoy her sweet company. Ken is a lot like his mom, easy to get along with and good to have around. Welcome to Arizona, Susan!! Elliot has been here visiting, too. Elliot is Ken's 20 year old brother. Well, he'll be 20 on Monday, close enough. Elliot was born about 8 months after Ken and I got married, so Susan was pregnant at our wedding!! Ken's enjoyed some time to get to know Elliot better and now Elliot has gone on to California to get ready for school this fall there after a fun trip with some friends.
I found out I have gallstones, and not just a few. My gallbladder is fully loaded with stones and it's been the cause of a lot of my pain and digestive problems over the past 20 years. So soon I'll have surgery and have my sick little gallbladder removed. I'm hoping for relief from some long-standing problems. I'd like to tell off about 15 different doctors who, in the past, have dismissed my complaints, failed to order the appropriate tests, given me antacids and sent me home feeling like a hypochondriac. Quacks.
I've been working more hours with my ASU research project and also looking into graduate programs. Right now I'm seriously looking into becoming a school psychologist. In Arizona, that requires at least 60 hours of coursework and state certification. Well, Arizona State University only has a PhD program which would most likely take 5 years (121 hours). Gulp. If I really pushed I could complete the program in 3 years but that would be murder. So I'll have to seriously consider all kinds of things before actively pursuing that field of work. But you know what? 4 or 5 years are going to pass and I can either have my education complete or not...we'll see.
So it's been a busy summer but a pretty good one. The boys start school August 10 so they have one more week of "freedom". Jeremy has been working and enjoying having his license...and has a girlfriend. Yikes.
More later!
