We've all seen them in restaurants, churches, grocery stores, movie theaters, or worse yet, we've BEEN them--those parents who argue with their children, act less mature than their 2 year old, lie to their children, call them names, and when all else fails, beat them. I've learned many things the hard way (you know, trial and error) and after 30+ years of watching people parent and 19 years of parenting my own, I've made some observations.
1. hitting kids doesn't make them behave. If it did, the world would be full of the best-behaved kids ever, wouldn't it??
2. yelling at kids doesn't make them behave, either~see #1
3. being disrespectful to kids makes them brats
4. lying to kids breaks their hearts and words aren't the only way to lie~ actions lie louder
5. spoiling children is a horrible form of abuse. It does just that...it spoils them as human beings
6. fighting in front of your kids changes who they are...permanently
7. tv is a horrible babysitter. She has horrible morals and saps their creativity. She doesn't pay any attention to them and lowers their self esteem. She teaches them things you do not want them to know, shows them things you do not want them to see. Sure, she's convenient and always available, or shall we say she's cheap and easy. Not 2 words you want used to describe your sitter, are they?
8. Don't mistreat them and then rely on their resiliency~learn better FAST if you don't know better yet
Kids are kids but your parenting is about who you are, not who they are. Sorry folks, saw some HORRIBLE parenting all over the place around town yesterday and I felt so bad for so many kids I had to share my thoughts.

I loved this! Great advice! I liked the TV one the best - especially how you referred to it as "she"!!
I loved it so much I just had to steal it... there are a few people I know that could use some of that advice!!!
